| Climatologist, born in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany. He went to Pennsylvania State University (1934) to teach, then worked at the University of Chicago and in the federal government before settling at the University of Maryland (1967). He wrote prolifically about the effects of air pollution on humans. At the time of his death he was with the World Meteorological Organization Commission for Climatology in Switzerland. |
