| biography:
| Novelist, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She studied musicology and became a teacher. She earned recognition as a writer with her cultural studies about Italy during the transition period from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, and her prose reflects her interest in Italy and in music. In several of her works, such as Geen been om op te staan (1977, No Leg to Stand On), she combines the genre of the historical novel with the modern genre of the detective story by means of portraying a 14th-c monk as a private investigator. |
