| Home economist, born in Somerville, Massachusetts, USA. The daughter of Wilbur Olin Atwater, she studied at Smith College and then assisted her father in his seminal calometric research. She joined the US Department of Agriculture's Office of Home Economics to publicize new findings on nutrition and food preparation to rural women (1909–23), and edited the Journal of Home Economics (1923–41). |
