| Poet and novelist, born in Yorkshire, England, UK. She studied at the University of York and began writing poetry, her collections including The Apple Fall (1983), The Raw Garden (1988), and Secrets (1994). Her children's novels include Going to Egypt (1992) and Fatal Error (1996), and among her books for adults are Zennor in Darkness (1993), Talking to the Dead (1996), and With Your Crooked Heart (2000). In 1996 she won the inaugural Orange Prize for women fiction writers for her novel A Spell of Winter. |
