| German statesman, born in Offenbach, WC Germany. A successful lawyer, he was one of the founders of the Christian Democratic Party. He went into politics in Hesse (1945), and was elected to the Federal Diet at Bonn (1949), where he played a prominent part in drafting the Constitution. He became foreign minister in 1955, but resigned in 1961. |
