| biography:
| Emperor, Count of Luxembourg, and German king (1308). He also acquired the kingdom of Bohemia for his family and thus laid the foundation of the House of Luxembourg. He led a campaign in Italy (1310–13) and was crowned King of Italy in Milan (1311) and emperor (1312) in the Lateran by three cardinals, but failed in his attempt to maintain his position, dying on the return journey in Buonconvento, Siena. |
