| German statesman, born in Münster, NC Germany. He studied at Bonn and the London School of Economics, and was leader of the Catholic Centre Party from 1929, and chancellor (1930–2), when he was forced to resign by the Nazis. He left Germany in 1934, and became professor of government at Harvard (1939–52), and professor of political science at Cologne (1951–5). |
