| biography:
| Carthaginian general, the son of Hamilcar and brother of Hannibal. He was left in command of the Carthaginian army in 218 BC when Hannibal invaded Italy at the start of the 2nd Punic War. He fought successfully against the Roman General Publius Cornelius Scipio and his son Gnaeus Scipio Africanus (218–208 BC). In 207 BC he marched across the Alps to Italy to bring help to his brother, but was intercepted at the R Metaurus and killed. |
