| Writer, born in Berlin, Germany. After working in the open-cast mines at Senftenberg, an experience he describes in his Senftenberger Erzählungen (1967), he studied film at Babelsberg and became resident dramatist at the Deutsches Theater in East Berlin, before fleeing to the West in 1965. Since then he has worked as a playwright and director. His work is in the Brechtian socialist tradition and focuses on social and political themes, as in Herakles (1968) and Frau von Kauenhofen (1977). He has also written radio plays and adaptations of Shakespeare and Molière. |
