| Architect, born in Vienna, Austria. He studied at the Vasa Institute in Vienna, and later at Harvard, under Gropius. He worked in New York, and later with Oscar Niemeyer in Brazil, before setting up a practice in Sydney, Australia (1948). His first design, for a private house, won the Sulman Medal three years later, since when he has won many awards for public and private buildings. He has worked in Mexico and Hong Kong, and designed the Australian embassy in Paris. Responsible for much of the Sydney skyline, his work there includes the award-winning Australia Square tower, and Grosvenor Place, which won him his fifth Sulman Medal in 1990. |
