| Industrialist, born in Milledgeville Crossroads, Georgia, USA. After an early career in sales, he worked for Litton Industries (1956–71). As president, chief executive officer, and chairman (1971–86) he transformed United Aircraft into United Technologies, a conglomerate of companies poised to take advantage of massive research and development expenditures, particularly in microelectronics. He was later chairman and chief executive officer of American Medical Holdings, Dallas, TX. |
