| Poet and critic, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. From an influential family, she was educated at the Visitation Convent, Washington, DC, then worked as an art and drama critic. In 1912 she founded the highly respected magazine Poetry, which was influential in publicizing the work of Lindsay, Eliot, Pound, and Frost, among others. She wrote the ‘Columbian Ode’ for the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition (1892), celebrating the 400th anniversary of the West's ‘discovery’ of America. |
