| Automobile executive and government official, born in Port Huron, Michigan, USA. He ended his 45-year career at the Everitt-Metzger-Flanders Co and its successor, Studebaker Corp, which he led out of receivership (1933–5), and was chairman until the 1954 merger with Packard. Appointed to the Atomic Energy Commission (1955–9), he promoted the industrial use of nuclear energy. |
