| Cricketer, born in Nuncargate, Nottinghamshire, C England, UK. He played for Nottinghamshire, where he was known for the speed of his opening attack. He bowled ‘bodyline’ in the 1932–3 tour of Australia when several of the home batsmen were seriously hurt, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were imperilled. Afterwards, feeling that he had not been supported in official quarters, he retired from Test cricket after playing in only 21 matches. He published two memoirs, Bodyline (1933) and The Larwood Story (1965). In his later life he settled in Australia. |
