| King of England (1037–40), the younger son of Canute and Ælfgifu of Northampton. Canute had intended that Hardicanute, his only son by Emma of Normandy, should succeed him in both Denmark and England. But in view of Hardicanute's absence in Denmark, Harold was accepted in England, first as regent (1035–6), and from 1037 as king. |
