| Composer, born in Gütersloh, WC Germany. He studied at Heidelberg and Paris, and was influenced by Schoenberg, exploring beyond the more conventional uses of the 12-tone system. His more recent works, which include operas, ballets, symphonies, and chamber music, often reflect his left-wing political views. He settled in Italy in 1953, and has taken master classes in composition at the Salzburg Mozarteum since 1961. |
