| Conductor, born in Raab, NW Hungary. He studied at Vienna, became conductor at Munich, Budapest, and Vienna, gave a series of annual concerts in London (1879–97), and was conductor of the Hallé Orchestra (1897–1911). He was an authority on the music of Wagner, with whom he was closely associated in the Bayreuth festivals. |
