| Writer, born in Gelnhausen, WC Germany. He served on the imperial side in the Thirty Years' War, led a wandering life, then settled in Renchen, near Kehl. In later life he wrote a series of novels, the best of them on the model of the Spanish picaresque romances, such as the Simplicissimus series (1669–72). |
