| biography:
| Baritone, born in Offenbach-am-Main, WC Germany. He studied in Munich and, after working as an organist and choirmaster, made his debut as an opera singer in 1930. In 1940 he settled in Munich, but sang frequently in Vienna and Bayreuth, becoming one of the leading Wagnerian baritones of his day. He retired from opera in 1972, but continued to do recital work. |
