| Writer, born in Stellingen near Hamburg, N Germany. He was a poet, organ restorer, and hormone researcher, who founded the neo-pagan group Glaubensgemeinde Ugrino in 1920. His early poetry was influenced by Rilke and Büchner, and he gained recognition as a writer with his play Pastor Ephraim Magnus (1919). Notable works include the play Armut, Reichtum, Mensch und Tier (1948) and the trilogy Fluß ohne Ufer (1949, 1950, 1961), which shows a search for meaning in the modern world. |
