| Poet and essayist, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He studied law in Amsterdam and worked as a literary and drama critic. From 1965 until 1982, he was appointed professor of Dutch literature at Leiden University. Although he began his literary career as a poet, he later restricted himself to writing essays in the Forum tradition. |
