| biography:
| Lord Nelson's mistress, probably born in Ness, Cheshire, NWC England, UK. In 1782 she accepted the protection of Charles Greville, to exchange it in 1786 for that of his uncle, Sir William Hamilton, English ambassador to Naples, whom she married in 1791. She first met Nelson in 1793, and bore him a daughter, Horatia (1801–81). After the death of her husband and Nelson, she became bankrupt, and in 1813 was arrested for debt. The next year she fled to Calais, where she died in obscurity. |
