| Journalist and writer, born in Rotterdam, W Netherlands. A reputed columnist and commentator for the NRC Handelsblad newspaper, he uses the pseudonym S Montag for his sharp political and social columns, which have been collected in Het gevoel van Columbus en andere overpeinzingen (1982, The Emotions of Columbus and Other Considerations). Under his own name, he writes novels in which modern history plays a prominent part. |
