| biography:
| Poet, born in Usselo, E Netherlands. He initially used the pseudonym Habakuk II de Balker for his volumes of poetry Boerengedichten (1969, Farmers' Poems) and Helgeel landjuweel (1977, Bright Yellow Country Gem). In his sonorous poetry he expresses his love for unspoilt nature, the threat that modern society poses, his aversion against intellectualism, and his social commitment. Although humorous and cynical at times, the idealistic nature of his poetry is a pervasive feature. In 1998 he was awarded the Constantijn Huygensprijs for his entire body of work. |
