| biography:
| Novelist, poet, and translator, born in Alkmaar, W Netherlands. He contributed to the literary magazines Merlyn and Podium, and in his first volume of poetry, Poolsneeuw (1964, Polar Snow), he pursues purity in and through language to counterbalance the decay of modern times. This ambition results in metaphysical poetry in which he refers to other and ancient cultures to express his own feelings and emotions. His poetry is sometimes compared to that of Ezra Pound, and this link is confirmed by Ten Berge's translation of Pound's ‘Cantos’. In 1969 he published Canaletto en andere verhalen (Canaletto and Other Stories). |
