| Catholic priest, and theologian, born in Buffalo, New York, USA. A Jesuit, he was a theology professor in Chile (1937–48) and at a Jesuit seminary in Maryland (from 1949). He was a pioneering advocate of ecumenism, and played a key role as interpreter and liaison for non-Catholics at the Second Vatican Council. |
