| biography:
| Bavarian politician, born in Weißenburg, Bavaria. He became president of Upper Bavaria and Bavarian prime minister (1917–24). In his capacity as Generalstaatskommissar, he initially participated in the abortive Hitler Putsch (8 Nov 1923) and ordered it to be quashed the following day by police and army. In 1924–7 he was president of the Bavarian Court of Administrative Justice. He was murdered in Munich in 1934 during the Nazi purge of 30 June. |
