| Botanist, born in Zagań, W Poland (formerly Sagan, Germany). He studied at Breslau University, and worked at universities in Munich, Kiel, and Wrocław, Poland (formerly Breslau, Prussia), before becoming professor and director of the botanical gardens at Berlin (1889–1921). He proposed a major system of plant classification that is still widely used. |
