| biography:
| Poet, born near Karlstad, SWC Sweden. He studied at Uppsala, became a schoolmaster and journalist, and suffered several periods of mental illness. Perhaps the greatest Swedish lyric poet, he is often compared with Burns. His use of dialect and folksong rhythm in the portrayal of local characters can be seen in his first collection, Guitarr och dragharmonika (1891, Guitar and Concertina). |
