| Cell and molecular biologist, born in Waltersdorf, Germany. He studied at the Rockefeller University, New York City, joining the staff in 1969 and spending his career there. He received the 1999 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for the discovery that proteins have intrinsic signals that govern their transport and localization in the cell. |
