| Poet, born in Santa Firmina, Tuscany, NC Italy. A member of the Guelph middle classes, political conflict in the city forced him into voluntary exile in 1263. In 1265 he entered the order of the Knights of Our Lady. His work consists of 50 Lettere and the Rime, a collection of poems which include 50 canzones and over 250 sonnets. It is divided into love poems and political and religious poems. His work combined some techniques of the Sicilian school with others typical of Provençal poetry, and he was the leading exponent of the phase of transition before the arrival of the dolce stil novo. |
