| biography:
| Critic, poet, and translator, born in Madrid, Spain. He invented the term ultraísmo and then led the Grupo Ultra, producing Manifiesto vertical ultraísta (1920). His early poetry was collected in Hélices (1923), but his reputation was established by defending avant-garde movements in Literaturas europeas de vanguardia (1925), Itinerario de la nueva pintura española (1931), and La aventura estética de nuestro tiempo (1961). He has translated Max Jacob and Verlaine, and edited the Obras completas of Federico García Lorca. |
