| biography:
| Catalan troubadour, who wrote in Provençal. He was a friend of Bertran de Born and Richard Coeur de Lion, and inherited five important castles from his father. He seems to have treacherously murdered the wealthy Ramon Folc de Cardona in 1175. He composed excellent ‘sirventes’ attacking his enemies, praising his friends, and declaring that every lady was in love with him. His finest poem is a ‘planh’ or elegy for Ponç de Mataplana, a valiant knight whom he had earlier vilified just as vehemently as he laments his loss here. |
