| biography:
| Poet, born in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, N Italy. He was a judge and Castelfranco's podestà, but was forced into exile by the defeat (1274) of the Ghibelline faction he supported. All that remains of his work is 20 sonnets and canzones, among them the famous Al cor gentil rempaira sempre Amore. He is considered a forerunner of the dolce stil novo, whose main motifs - the woman-angel and references to scholastic philosophy - are present in his work. |
