| biography:
| Poet, born in Turin, Piedmont, NW Italy. He was the leading figure in the crepuscolarismo poetry movement. Two significant events shaped his life; his notorious relationship with fellow poet Amalia Guglielminetti, and his contracting tuberculosis in 1914. His crepuscolarismo is tinged with irony, and his language, enriched with colloquial forms would prove to have a great influence on other poets, chiefly Eugenio Montale. His themes are the desire for a simple life and his fascination with death. Among his works are La via del rifugio (1907), I colloqui (1911), the travelogue Verso la cuna del mondo (1917) about his 1912–13 trip to India and Ceylon, and the Lettere d'amore di Guido Gozzano e Amelia Guglielminetti (1951). |
