| biography:
| Swedish statesman, writer, and court official, born in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of Nicodemus Tessin (the Younger). Educated in France and Italy, he became active in politics, and hoped to regain territory lost to Russia during Charles XII's reign. He was elected leader of the Nobility Estate when the Hats gained a majority in 1738, and bore heavy responsibility for the unsuccessful war against Russia in 1741. He gained the favour of King Adolf Fredrik and Queen Louisa Ulrika, and in 1746 was appointed head of chancellory and governor to the future King Gustav III, but fell from grace for disapproving of their attempts to increase royal power. He left public life, and made a name for himself as a poet and writer. |
