| Classicist, born in Istanbul, Turkey. He studied at Robert College, Istanbul (1925 BA) and Harvard (1931 PhD) and became a naturalized US citizen. He taught at Cornell (1948–55), Princeton (1955–76), and the University of California, Berkeley (1976–82). Among his highly regarded publications in the field of Greek philosophy are Platonic Studies (1973) and Plato's Universe (1975). |
