| Apostle of Armenia, said to have been a Parthian prince who fled from a Persian invasion, and was brought up a Christian in Cappadocia. Returning to Armenia he was taken prisoner by Tiridates III for refusing to condone idolatry. He succeeded in converting the king (301), who then made Christianity the official religion of the state, and Gregory became Patriarch of Armenia. Feast day 30 September. |
