| biography:
| Playwright, born at Roxborough House, Co Galway, W Ireland. After her marriage in 1880 to Sir William Henry Gregory, Governor of Ceylon (1872–7), she became an associate of Yeats in the foundation of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and the Irish Players. For these she wrote a number of short plays, notably Spreading the News (1904) and The Rising of the Moon (1907). She also wrote Irish legends in dialect and translated Molière. |
