| biography:
| Novelist and playwright, born in Madrid, Spain. A theatre manager and producer, he was also a publisher and prolific writer who did much to revive Spanish theatre. His masterpiece is the play Canción de cuna (1911, The Cradle Song), which was also popular in Britain and America. Much of his writing was done in collaboration with his wife María (1874–1974), whose feminist opinions find expression in some of the plays, and who wrote a book on their work together, Gregorio y yo (1953, Gregory and I). |
