| A faith healer consulted by Queen Juliana for the eye problems of Princess Marijke (later Christina) c.1948. It was alleged that she exerted political influence on the Queen and there was alarm in some NATO circles that she was a pacifist. Some people clamoured for abdication. The Queen and Prince Bernhard appointed a three-man commission (Beel, Gerbrandy, and Tjarda van Starkenborgh Stachouwer) to investigate. All the reports had been in the foreign press, though rumour was rife and there were questions in the House. The problem was solved by Hofman's dismissal. |
