| German politician and police chief, born in Merseburg, EC Germany. He was a member of the Nationalsozialistiche Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP) and in 1925 joined the Landestag in Prussia. Head of Berlin police (1935–44), he became controversially involved in the resistance movement and with Goerdeler from 1938. His function would have been to arrest the Nazi leaders had the coup of 20 July 1944 been successful. He was later executed in Berlin. |
