| German soldier, born in Jettingen, SC Germany. Initially welcoming the advent to power of Hitler, he quickly became alienated by Nazi brutality. He was a colonel on the German general staff in 1944, and placed the bomb in the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hitler at Rastenburg (20 Jul 1944). He was shot next day. |
