| Actress, born in St Louis, Missouri, USA. She worked as a chorus girl from the age of 13 and made her film debut in the musical Whoopee! (1930). She had her first major film role in Hold ’em Jail (1932), and became more established with Pigskin Parade (1936), and Million Dollar Legs (1939). She was adopted by American GI's during World War 2 as a pin-up girl, with the famous picture in which, dressed in a swimsuit, with her back to the camera and hands on hips, she glances saucily over her right shoulder. She went on to appear on Broadway in Hello, Dolly (1965). |
