| Writer, born in Sunne, W Sweden. His father, whom he dearly loved, died when he was 12, and his world fell apart. His first work, Inringing (Encircling), appeared in 1958, since when he has published poems, plays, travel books, and novels. In his fiction he recaptures his childhood and tries to come to terms with his loss. His most popular novels are the prize-winning Juloratoriet (1982, The Christmas Oratorio; filmed 1996) and Tjuven (1986, The Thief). |
