| Tennis player, born in Split, W Croatia. He turned professional in 1988 and won his first tour title in Stuttgart in 1990. Ranked number two in the world in 1992, he won a bronze medal at the Barcelona Olympics. He lost the Wimbledon final that year to Andre Agassiz, and was a losing finalist twice more (1994, 1998). In 2001 he had a disappointing season dogged by injury and fell to 129 in the rankings, but he entered Wimbledon on a wild card, and went on to win the title in a dramatic 5-set final against Pat Rafter of Australia. |
