| Italian politician and historian, born in Messina, Sicily, S Italy. A member of Sicily's revolutionary government in 1848, he moved to Piedmont after the Bourbons returned and founded the Società Nazionale, a moderate association. Cavour sent him to Sicily in 1860 but Garibaldi had him replaced. He became a deputy in 1860. |
