| Italian politician, born in Livorno, Tuscany, W Italy. He was a member of the Socialist Party and a deputy from 1913. He was against Italian participation in World War 1, opposed Fascism, and was forced to escape to France in 1926. There he was active in the Concentrazione antifascista (Anti-Fascist Alliance) and opposed an alliance with the communists. After the war, he was a deputy of the Constituent Assembly and president of the Social Democrat Party in 1947. |
