| Scholar and politician, born in Lugo, Emilia-Romagna, NE Italy. He was an Illuminist and the general secretary of the Cispadane Confederation, and in 1797 at the Reggio Emilia congress put forward the proposal that the tricolour should become the national flag. In 1800 he wrote the pre-Romantic Le veglie del Tasso which was believed to have been written by Torquato Tasso and obtained considerable worldwide success. |
