| Physician and scholar, born in Riva del Garda, Trentino-Alto Adige, N Italy. After graduating in medicine at Bologna, he moved to France (1525) as personal doctor to the Bishop of Agen. His fame rests on the Poetices libri septem (1561) which give a rationalistic reading of Aristotle's Aesthetics. |
